CTC: Tim tell us you're all about yourself?

I’ve been within the IT security game for over 15 years now (where’s that point gone?!), working for software vendors & consultancies in various roles. I’ve got a few youngsters, lived abroad for several years, and am an enormous Brighton fan – these aren't linked!

CTC: most of the people view Trend as a consumer anti-virus vendor what's Trends offering within the cloud?

That was my perception before I joined, but the items we’re doing with virtualisation and cloud are really ground-breaking in my opinion. the advantages for Deep Security for Cloud Service Providers is nearly a no brainer, allowing CSPs to supply Virtual Patching, anti-malware, integrity monitoring, firewalls (and more) during a multi-tenanted fashion as a tick-box exercise with a pricing model that matches. Our policy-based encryption technology, Secure Cloud, is additionally hugely popular within the US especially – but which will become more important locally next year when the EU Directive comes into play.

CTC: So can deep security be provided as a managed service by partners?

Absolutely. we've a multi-tenanted version that permits MSP’s to supply everything we've in Deep Security as a service. We’ve also learnt that traditional pricing models don’t work and now fit into the new Service Provider’s method.

CTC: How can partners get an indication of the deep security suite?

Give me a call! It’s actually very easy. we've a team of individuals in Cork, our EMEA Headquarters, who spend their time running demo’s etc. They’re an excellent team and we’re lucky to possess them.

CTC: Where does one see revenue gains and return on investment from migrating to Deep Security?

I could continue forever here, but I’ll attempt to keep it simple.

I never realised the size of the patching problem until I joined Trend!

CTC: What management and orchestration panels does one integrate with?

Our open architecture means we will integrate with an enormous raft of orchestration panels, so it’s an open-ended question really. information technology degree There are some we’re going a step further with, like Abiquo, but we obviously can’t afford to travel solo with this.

CTC: Tim, if you were the CEO of a cloud or managed service provider how would you deploy Deep Security both commercially and technically?

Well, you'd obviously expect me to mention that it’s best to put in the lot and quickly! the reality is that everybody is different and that they have different priorities. you've got ultra-secure providers, like The Bunker, who would enjoy deploying everything and ensuring the planet knows. Others could also be providing a low-cost alternative and can be trying to find up-sell opportunities, and therein case it's going to be best to deploy a version that permits the end-customer to settle on which security components if any, they want. I wouldn’t ever recommend a deployment path that's good for all.

CTC: Here may be a challenge Tim in 150 simple words describe why a cloud provider or MSP should deploy Trend over your competition!

The trend is known to be two years before the competition when it involves Service Provider security. Putting the safety question aside, our architecture enables huge performance increases when securing virtualised environments enabling service providers to suit more VMs on each host. Our multi-tenanted approach and versatile service provider licensing model also ensures we fit both technically and commercial into the way service providers want to figure.

From the safety standpoint, our Smart Protection Network is that the largest threat database within the world, covering traditional threats on the online, email and files, also because the emerging threats around mobile applications – we’ve downloaded every app on Google’s Play Store and given them a reputation score. this is often big data before big data existed.

The trend is 25 years old and is a channel-led company that whole time. We’re a billion-dollar company with over a billion within the bank, so it’s clearly worked! we offer regular technical training, we've events specifically for our channel, we've flexible commercial models and far more. Anyone who has been to our EMEA HQ in Cork who would understand the machine we've worked behind us to form sure our partners succeed. I’ve never worked for a corporation with the human resources Trend has worked for the great of the corporate and its partners.

CTC: Tim, an issue we ask everyone, what's your definition of cloud computing?

For me, cloud computing is where an organisation entrusts its data and systems with a foreign service, which data is accessed through the online. That’s it during a nutshell, but in fact, that's very open-ended & probably doesn’t encapsulate everything.

CTC: Tim, have you ever got any events or shows arising where you'll interface with partners and customers?

We were at Infosec in London last month during a big way. We do a raft of events though and are especially prevalent at the VMUG events across the united kingdom. We’re also doing the VMware PEX events within the UK and may be found somewhere at the most cloud events. We even have a channel-specific event arising which interested partners can ask me about.

CTC: and eventually Tim for anyone reading this blog what security tips would you offer them?

Having worked in both software and consultancy, I understand the importance of tools and processes. One doesn’t work without the opposite, though processes got to be mapped first. I might also suggest a proactive approach to security, instead of reactive. Too many companies spend vast amounts of cash after an event, which seems absurd to me. love it or not, your company are going to be a target.

In truth though, nobody makes this journey just one occasion. CTC: Mark firstly introduce yourself to our audience

I’m the Commercial Director for Proact within the UK. This title covers a mess of sins but primarily relates to owning marketing operations and ensuring that the products and services we fancy market is profitable for us to deliver whilst adding value to our customers and making their lives easier.

CTC: you create a lofty claim about Dropbox, tell us about the corporate behind Probox?

Proact are an exceptionally well-kept secret! If you ask anyone within the storage and virtualisation markets who Proact are, they’ll probably be ready to tell you all about us as we’re Europe’s largest specialist and are for quite a decade.

However outside of this niche what’s less documented is our capability in delivering cloud computing services as it’s something we’ve been doing successfully for 10-years (under its many guises) and we’ve now got quite 30PB of knowledge under management with around 12PB in our datacentres across Europe.

Proact may be a publicly listed company founded in Sweden in 1994 with a UK presence for around 12-years. We’ve got an immediate presence in 13 countries and our annual turnover is approximately £250m with quite 650 employees across the group (70% of the workers being deeply technical).

Our size makes us a stimulating proposition as our biggest differentiator is just that we’re large enough to deliver but aren’t at a size yet where we’ve lost neither our flexibility nor our ability to reply . One simple reason why we still grow whilst retaining our customers is that we haven’t lost the power to apologise when things fail and that we always fix our mistakes. People remember the businesses who stand by them when the s**t hits the fan, no matter who caused the matter.

CTC: So what is your opinion sets Probox aside from Dropbox?

Security, security, security with enterprise IT thrown into the mix!! Dropbox may be a great product if you’re a user as it’s simple to use and straightforward to share information but it’s really not so good if you’re a corporation who cares about your business data.

Probox is different just because it’s been built from the bottom up to be secure during a way that doesn’t invade the top users. It’s got all the feature you’d expect, mobile clients, flexible sharing and is exceptionally easy to use but at an equivalent time offers companies an immensely high level of security and control.

CTC: So how do customers purchase and test your product?

CTC: What are the expansion plans for Probox?

The opportunity for Probox is large, not only because users need a flexible way of sharing their data but also because most organisations now recognise that it adds value to them if they provide their employees with this capability. Our plan for the top of 2013 is to possess Probox deployed during a further 10 European datacentres with Asia Pac and Americas to follow closely after.

We see most growth for Probox coming from our channel as that’s a very obvious route to plug.

CTC: Dropbox is renowned for its simplicity How easy is that the Probox product to use?

I’m not an enormous fan of the phrase Cloud Computing as I haven’t met anyone yet who can give me a straight answer because it means something different everyone. As far as I’m concerned I shouldn’t care about servers, storage arrays, RPO’s or RTO’s. That’s someone else’s problem – or rather to place it bluntly, that’s what Proact deliver, we glance after the boring stuff so companies can specialise in what makes them tick.

CTC: and eventually if you'll change one thing about the Cloud Computing industry what wouldn't it be?

To shoot anyone who answers the gesture and pretends to understand what Cloud Computing is! More seriously I’d just like the industry to mature touch and for tons of the hype to die down. There are too many providers out there making tons of noise about what they're “going” to try to without actually delivering much of any substance. There are not any real standards and user customers are totally confused by the various messages being thrown at them.

Cloud computing features a major impact on how companies manage their business, be it sales, marketing, HR, finance etc. As each of those functions move to the cloud they require migration and integration, and it’s not just inter-business evolution. Each vendor providing a cloud solution creates its own interface to the appliance. What we see may be a challenge for companies of all sizes, and altogether locations, as they plan to understand then manage these unique application interfaces and integrate applications from the cloud to cloud and cloud to on-premise. this is often where WebSphere forged iron brings some serious magic.

As more and more business-critical applications move to the cloud we start to ascertain different cloud states emerging like hybrid clouds. deem example SmartCloud for SAP; real-time synchronisation of knowledge or data delivery across new and old estates. These hybrid architectures require integration to bridge the gap between the on-premise existing systems and therefore the new cloud applications, platform, and infrastructure.

That’s great for the straightforward stuff, but here’s a useful feature for much larger customers that have deployed an enterprise service bus (ESB). so far the move to a cloud hybrid model poses a big challenge for this infrastructure, why? Well, within the cloud model you’d expect much more frequent changes than an ESB was designed to accommodate, especially when considering more dynamic applications like mobile, social or the growing diverse catalogue of SaaS applications. WebSphere forged iron integrates to the ESB acting as a cloud gateway, interfacing the ESB to your emerging portfolio of cloud applications.

This means that as demand grows, the enterprise architecture flexes and morphs and more resource is placed, albeit only as a transient burst, into flexible cloud services. Neither business agility nor IT governance need be sacrificed or compromised. With immediate effect, if desired, you'll keep your core data residing within the enterprise serviced by one or more key (maybe legacy) applications, yet gain the advantage of smaller cloud-based services providing niche applications, like HR, collaboration services then on.

Cloud integration services then become pivotal to the IT function. instead of covering cracks within the architecture, they're seen as vital in leveraging the bottom IT strategy of key enterprise investments, whilst supporting continually emerging business demands.

In a cloud world, we can’t expect restrictive systems that force equivalent data structures, so WebSphere Cast Iron’s role in performing data transformation may be a huge bonus. What’s more, data aggregation is additionally expected when providing services for other applications, so WebSphere forged iron helps combine data from multiple sources. It drives performance benefits across the system making only one API call to get data instead of many.
